Location
Rishikesh UttranchalUttranchal in the northern part of India is blessed with rushing rivers, awesome snow-coated peaks, bewildering lakes, venerated temples and a bursting plethora of flora and fauna. Uttaranchal shares international borders with Nepal and China.


Climate
Uttaranchal climate varies with altitude. At an altitude of about 3,000 m (10,000 ft), temperatures rarely rise above 20°C (68°F) during summer, while subzero conditions prevail in winter. The state is also subjected to Indian monsoon. The rainy months hails from August to first week of September.

Uttaranchal has an important position on Indian map. Located in northern part of India, Uttaranchal is encircled by Tibet & Nepal in the North, Madhya Pradesh in the South, Haryana, Delhi & Rajasthan in the West and Bihar in the East. Dehradun, Mussoorie, Nainital and Ranikhet are the valleys with immense natural beauty. Uttaranchal is known for its spectacular natural beauty, salubrious climate, places of pilgrimages, abundant wildlife, and beautiful countryside -all these unite to make Uttaranchal make it an enchanting destination of Uttaranchal. Uttaranchal is divided into two major regions - Kumaon and Garhwal.

The Kumaon region of Uttaranchal cover areas like Almora, Nainital, Udham Singh, Pithorgarh and Champawat and the Garhwal region covers areas like Chamoli, Dehradun, Hardiwar, Rudra Prayag and Uttarkashi.

Haridwar Haridwar - gateway to the four pilgrimages in the Uttrakhand region, is located on the foot hills of Shivaliks. It is on the banks of River Ganga. The Ganga leaves the mountains and enters the plains with Haridwar being the first major town on the plains.

Almora - Almora is a scenic destination in the Kumaun region, East of Uttaranchal in India, with an overwhelming panoramic view of Himalayas. The hill stations welcomes tourists from all over the worldwide with its alluring grandeur of natural beauty.

By Rail - There are three major rail heads in Uttaranchal - Dehradun, Haridwar, and Kathgodam are the major railway stations connected to almost all parts of the country with regular trains. Not many places in the state are connected by rail because of tough terrains. For those planning their vacations in the higher altitudes, trekking and road routes are the only options available.

By Road - The state is well connected with roads to other parts of northern India. National Highways such as 58, 73, 74, and 87 connect places in the state to other parts of the country.
