St. Mary's Church - Constructed in the cantonment
area of Varanasi, St Mary Church is amongst the few Christian pilgrimage
spot on hindu land. St. Mary's Church has a low tower, spire and
projecting poitico. Instead of windows tile, church has louvred doors to
the sides and hooded ventilation slots beneath the cornice. It is a look
tourist spot in Varanasi.
The Ghats of Varanasi - Varanasi is ancient
pilgrimage city. The city is quiet famous for its bathing ghats.
Thousands of tourists flock Varanasi everyday which is constructed
beside the river Ganga.
The
Kashi Vishwanath Temple / Gyanvapi Mosque - Dedicated to Lord Shiva,
Kashi Vishwanath Temple popularly known as the golden Temple due the
Gold plating done on its 15.5 meter high spire. One tonne of gold
donated by Maharaja Ranjit Singh has been used in the gold plating of
the spire. The Kashi temple was destroyed in the various invasions and
was reconstructed in 1776 by Rani Ahilyabai of Indore.
Bharat Kala Museum - Bharat Kala Museum is in the
Kashi Hindu University which showcases the rich collection of precious
and rare historical artifacts, statues, pictures, paintings and
manuscripts. This small but very well maintained museum gives an over
view of the ancient city of Varanasi. Entry in the museum is free but
check out the timings.
Ram Nagar Durg - Just 2 km away from Kashi Hindu
University. Ram Nagar Durg is situated in the ancenstral house and was
constructed by the former rulers of Kashi. Ram Nagar Durg give an
insight into the royal grandeur which once prevailed the fort. This
temple has very delicate and intricate carving done on stone
Connectivity
Air - The nearest airport is at Babatpur Airport
which is 22 kms. from Sarnath. There is a direct, daily flight
connection between Varanasi and New Delhi and also to Kathmandu.
Varanasi is also linked by air to Agra, Erotic Khajuraho Temples,
Kolkata, Bombay, Lucknow and Bhubaneshwar.Following chart shows the

Airport City Bus Service - Runs twice daily via
Indian Airlines Office and Govt. of India Tourist Office.
Rail - Varanasi is the major rail head and the city
is linked by trains with all metros and major cities across the country
- New Delhi (760 Kms.), Bombay (1509 Kms.), Kolkata (735 Kms.), Madras
(1970 Kms.) , Lucknow (286 Kms.).There are three railway station -
Kashi, City and Varanasi Junction (also known as Varanasi Cantonment).
There are not many trains running directly between here and Delhi or
Kolkata but most Delhi to Kolkata trains do pass through Mughal Sarai,
18 km south of Varanasi. This is about 45 minutes by bus or shared
auto-rickshaw.
Road - Varanasi is connected with Kolkata (677
Kms.), Delhi (765 Kms.), Madras (1901 Kms.), Bangalore (1763 Kms.) and
to the rest of the country by good motorable, all-weather roads.
